Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma lead India to Asian Games gold

India defended their Asian Games title with a 147-run win over Sri Lanka, led by Mandhana and Shafali Verma.

India defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs to win their second successive Asian Games gold medal in women's T20 cricket at Korogi Sports Park. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma put together a 99-run opening stand as India posted 221 for four, their highest total in the format.

Mandhana scored her 37th T20I half-century and her fifth fifty in an eleventh T20I final appearance. Richa Ghosh contributed 49 off 22 balls, while Shafali Verma later took wickets with the ball. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 69.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur said the gold medal was a special feeling after a disappointing T20 World Cup exit. Shafali Verma moved up to fourth in the ICC Women's T20I batting rankings after her maiden T20I century in the semi-final against Bangladesh.
