Sunil Gavaskar rejects free-hit idea, wants fines on bowlers for no-balls in Tests

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar rejected the idea of a free-hit for no-balls in Tests, instead suggesting fines for bowlers who overstep. Since 2021, Ravindra Jadeja has bowled more than 85 no-balls in Tests.

Gavaskar made the comments after Jadeja's repeated no-ball mistakes during the Test series against Sri Lanka. The Saurashtra all-rounder was at the receiving end of criticism for bowling multiple no-balls in recent matches.

Gavaskar called for harsher punishment for bowlers who continue to make the same mistakes. He suggested that financial penalties would be more effective than the free-hit rule that applies in limited-overs cricket.
