AB de Villiers says Kohli entering third peak ahead of 2027 World Cup

De Villiers called Kohli's current form a third peak and urged selectors to retain both Kohli and Rohit for the 2027 World Cup.

AB de Villiers has described Virat Kohli's current form as a third peak, citing the batter's new freedom and instinct-driven approach. The South African said Kohli's unbeaten 139 against West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram, with nine sixes, showed a relaxed mindset that makes him nearly unstoppable.

De Villiers also urged selectors to pick Rohit Sharma for the 2027 ODI World Cup, arguing that his leadership qualities outweigh questions of age or form. He said fielding positions such as mid-off or third man can accommodate older players while retaining their batting and experience.

Kohli passed 15,000 ODI runs during the series but was dismissed for a golden duck in the third match at New Chandigarh. De Villiers will play in the World Championship of Legends, which streams on FanCode.
