Wasim Jaffer applies for senior national selector's post

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has applied for the vacant senior national selector's post. The 48-year-old confirmed his application to PTI after Ajit Agarkar's contract was not renewed. Jaffer played 31 Tests for India and scored close to 2,000 runs, including five centuries.

If selected by the Cricket Advisory Committee, Jaffer would have the highest number of Test appearances among candidates for chairman. His 31 Tests exceed Pragyan Ojha's 24. The committee comprises Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape.

BCCI sources indicate strong internal support for retaining Ojha as chairman. Ramesh Powar could also feature in the new panel under that scenario. The final composition depends on the CAC assessment and BCCI preferences.
