Wasim Jaffer backs Mohammed Shami for India return

Wasim Jaffer said Mohammed Shami deserves selection for India after strong domestic performances, following Bhuvneshwar Kumar's recall to the T20I squad. Shami last played for India in the 2025 Champions Trophy final.

Jaffer said selectors should not close the door on Shami and that his record in Test cricket remains relevant. He added that Bhuvneshwar's return was based on performance rather than favour.

Ravichandran Ashwin said the change in selection leadership after Ajit Agarkar's exit could reopen opportunities for experienced bowlers. Shami has taken 229 Test wickets and 206 ODI wickets in his career.
