Joe Root became the second-fastest batter to reach 23,000 international runs during England's first ODI against Sri Lanka in Durham. The 35-year-old reached the milestone in his 521st international innings, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar who achieved the feat in 522 innings. Virat Kohli remains the fastest with 490 innings. Root, who scored 44 in the match, became the eighth batter and first Englishman to reach the landmark, joining Kohli, Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis.
