Maddinson and Harper added to Australia squad as Green faces fitness test

Maddinson and Harper join Australia's squad for the South Africa series. Green remains doubtful for the Durban opener.

Australia added Nic Maddinson and Sam Harper to their Test squad for the series against South Africa after Cameron Green suffered an abdominal strain and Josh Inglis was ruled out with a broken finger. The additions were confirmed on Thursday ahead of the opening Test in Durban on October 9.

Maddinson returns to the Test side nearly a decade after his last appearance against Pakistan in December 2016. Harper earned his first call-up after scoring 128 for Australia A against India A in Puducherry this week.

George Bailey said Harper provides wicketkeeping cover while Maddinson adds batting flexibility. Green remains in doubt for the first Test, though scans have not ruled him out. Matt Renshaw has been cleared to open.
