'Give him the opportunity and space to do well' — Sanath Jayasuriya on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Sanath Jayasuriya urged India to give Vaibhav Sooryavanshi space to develop without rushing his selection.

Sanath Jayasuriya has been around long enough to see careers break from too much too soon. The 15-year-old sat in India's squad for the T20Is against Afghanistan but never walked out, and Jayasuriya thinks that's exactly how it should stay for now.

He called Sooryavanshi a different kind of talent and said the kid still has time. No need to force him into the side; the opportunities will come when they're ready for him. Sooryavanshi's still in the squad for the Japan T20I and the Asian Games, so the door isn't closed.

Gautam Gambhir has named Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma as his openers. Sooryavanshi made his India debut against England in June, but he's yet to play an innings at this level.
