Pakistan's squad shake-up news to captain Babar Azam

Heavy defeats in the first two Tests at Headingley and Lord's prompted the Pakistan Cricket Board to send seven players home before the tour was finished. Head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling chief Umar Gul were also sacked from their posts.

Captain Babar Azam said he was not consulted about the changes before they were announced. The PCB acted after Pakistan lost the opening two Tests by wide margins.

The remaining tour schedule includes three more Tests in England. Pakistan have not won a Test series in England since 1996.
