Rashid Khan says he learned of captaincy removal only after announcement
Rashid Khan captained Afghanistan to the 2024 T20 World Cup semi-finals before the board changed leadership without prior notice.
Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan said he learned of his removal as T20I captain only when the Afghanistan Cricket Board announced the decision on 5 March 2026. The board named Ibrahim Zadran as his successor, citing alignment with its long-term strategic vision.
Rashid had led Afghanistan in 48 T20Is, recording 26 wins. His side reached the semi-finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup under his leadership. He told Cricinfo he has moved on from the decision and remains focused on representing Afghanistan.
Ibrahim Zadran's first assignment as captain was a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka in Sharjah beginning 13 March 2026.
