Anrich Nortje ruled out of Australia Test series with groin injury

South Africa face a selection decision for the series decider after Anrich Nortje's groin injury ruled him out of the remainder of the Australia Test series.

Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of South Africa's third and final Test against Australia after sustaining a mild right groin injury during the second Test in Gqeberha. The fast bowler left the field after bowling 3.3 overs on the fourth morning and did not return. The series stands level at 1-1 ahead of the decider at Newlands starting Tuesday.

Cricket South Africa confirmed the injury through scans and announced an unchanged 16-member squad excluding Nortje. Gerald Coetzee, Corbin Bosch and Dane Paterson are in contention to replace him if the hosts opt for a four-man pace attack. Senuran Muthusamy remains available should conditions favour an additional spinner.

Nortje had returned to Test cricket after more than three years in the first Test at Durban, bowling 40 overs and taking four wickets. South Africa are also monitoring several other injury concerns ahead of a busy international schedule.
