Pat Cummins returns for Australia ODI but Marsh remains captain

Pat Cummins will play his first ODI in almost two years but will not captain Australia in the third match against South Africa in Potchefstroom. Mitchell Marsh remains skipper for the dead-rubber fixture despite Cummins being the format's official captain.

Cummins last played an ODI in November 2024. Mitchell Starc returns for this match while Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Ellis make way. Ollie Peake has been recalled to bat at number four.

Australia say the arrangement reflects continuity for Marsh, who has led the side 15 times since the last World Cup compared with Cummins' two matches. Cummins is prioritising the three-Test series beginning in Durban next week.
