Smriti Mandhana named India women's captain across all formats
Smriti Mandhana has been named India's captain across all three formats after Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down from the role. Harmanpreet, 37, led India to its first 50-over World Cup title in 2025 and guided the side in five Tests, 51 ODIs and 155 T20Is during her tenure.
Mandhana, 30, has already captained the team in 18 T20Is and four ODIs as Harmanpreet's deputy. The left-handed opener recently became the top run-scorer in women's international cricket and holds the record for most centuries across formats with 18. Harmanpreet said the decision carries years of memories and emotions but leaves her with peace.
Harmanpreet added that she will continue to play for the love of the game after relinquishing the captaincy. Mandhana's first assignment is a three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe starting on Friday in Raipur.
