'This is not cricket, this is only batting' — Gambhir after India's record ODI chase

Gautam Gambhir said the flat pitch in Guwahati that produced 811 runs was not cricket but only batting.

India coach Gautam Gambhir criticised the flat pitch in Guwahati after India chased 406 to beat West Indies by eight wickets in the second ODI on Wednesday. He told broadcasters the surface offered little contest between bat and ball.

Gambhir said record chases are good for crowds and broadcasters but leave young bowlers without meaningful work. He added it wasn't fair for bowlers to operate on surfaces that offered no assistance.

The third ODI at New Chandigarh on Saturday is the final match of the series. India have already secured an unassailable 2-0 lead.

The ICC announced a new four-stage format for the 2027 ODI World Cup featuring a Super Series stage and 57 matches across three African hosts.

The International Cricket Council confirmed a four-stage format for the 2027 ODI World Cup on Thursday. The 14-team tournament will run from October 2 to November 21 across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, with 57 matches scheduled at 12 venues. Semi-final 1 is set for November 17 in Cape Town and semi-final 2 for November 18 in Tshwane. The final is scheduled for November 21 in Johannesburg.

ICC introduces five-run penalty for time-wasting batters from October

The ICC announced new playing conditions on Thursday that introduce a five-run penalty for batters who repeatedly waste time. The rules apply to all international series starting October 1 or later.

A first offence draws a warning, a second offence a final warning, and a third offence triggers the five-run penalty to the fielding side. Tighter size and weight tolerances have been set for women's cricket balls, creating three separate specifications for men's, women's and junior cricket.

Pink balls may be used in daytime Tests if both teams agree before the match. The decision must apply for the entire Test and cannot be changed once play begins. The final over of a day's play will no longer end automatically at the fall of a wicket if conditions allow the over to be completed.

Wasim Jaffer says mutual respect outweighs rivalry between Kohli and Rohit

He traces Rohit's rise to the day he moved up to open.

Wasim Jaffer sees no real friction between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. On his YouTube channel he put their relationship on a level with the respect he felt among his own generation of players.

He traced the turning point to the 2013 Champions Trophy, when Rohit first opened the batting. That switch, Jaffer said, turned Sharma into a fixture in India's top three and changed the shape of his career.

Kohli struck his 55th ODI hundred in the opening match against West Indies. In the second, Rohit reached 12,000 ODI runs, the third Indian after Tendulkar and Kohli to get there.

Ishan Kishan breaks India's T20I record from number five or lower

His knock helped India beat Sri Lanka by 124 runs in the Asian Games semi-final.

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan scored an unbeaten 80 off 46 balls to become India's highest scorer from number five or lower in T20Is during the Asian Games semi-final against Sri Lanka. Kishan surpassed Manish Pandey's eight-year-old record of 79 not out against South Africa in Centurion in 2018.

He hit four boundaries and five sixes while accelerating through the middle and death overs. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's 38 off 21 balls provided early momentum before his dismissal.

India reached 169 for 7 and then bowled Sri Lanka out for 45 to win by 124 runs. Kishan's knock sets up a gold medal match against Pakistan on Saturday at Nisshin.
