Matthew Wade retires from all cricket after 36 Tests and 97 ODIs for Australia.

Matthew Wade announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Thursday, ending a career that included 36 Tests, 97 ODIs and 92 T20Is for Australia. The 38-year-old last played international cricket two years ago and continued in the Big Bash League for Hobart Hurricanes and List-A cricket for Tasmania.

ICC fines Kranti Gaud 10 percent of match fee, adds demerit point

Kranti Gaud fined 10 percent of match fee with one demerit point for gesture in Asia Cup final; Pakistan also fined for slow overrate.

The ICC fined India seamer Kranti Gaud 10 percent of her match fee and gave her one demerit point after the T20 Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka. The charge fell under Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct — the clause that covers gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a dismissed batter. Gaud had waved toward the pavilion after bowling Sri Lanka opener Imesha Dulani.

She admitted the offence and accepted the sanction from match referee Supriya Rani Das. The four officials who raised the charge were on-field umpires Saleema Imtiaz and Shathira Jakir Jesy, third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Humaira Farah. Level 1 breaches normally bring a reprimand at minimum and up to half a match fee at most, plus one or two demerit points.

Pakistan were also fined five percent of their match fee for a slow overrate in their semifinal against Sri Lanka. Captain Fatima Sana accepted that sanction.

BCCI open to reviewing Impact Player rule for IPL 2027

BCCI is reviewing the Impact Player rule after captains raised concerns about its effect on all-rounders.

IPL chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed the BCCI will take another look at the Impact Player rule after captains pushed back. Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel all told the board the rule has cut into the value of all-rounders, and the issue came up at the last Governing Council meeting.

Dhumal made clear the board wants input from every franchise before it decides. The rule stays in place until 2027, but nothing is locked in yet.

Leicestershire docked 27 points for pitch breach

Leicestershire loses 27 points for a pitch breach, placing the club on the brink of relegation from County Championship Division One.

Leicestershire has been docked 27 points for breaching ECB pitch regulations during its August win over Glamorgan. The Cricket Discipline Panel imposed the penalty midway through the Foxes' penultimate match after rating the Grace Road surface poor. The club forfeited the 19 points earned in the 42-run victory and received an additional eight-point deduction plus a £5,000 fine.

Head groundsman Callum Lewin told the tribunal that extreme heat reaching 35 degrees and an unscheduled Bollywood filming event four days before the match prevented proper preparation. Leicestershire, promoted as Division Two champions last season, can appeal within 10 working days. A further eight-point deduction has been suspended for 12 months.

The Foxes trail Hampshire by 225 runs on the second day of their ongoing match at Grace Road. Defeat will confirm relegation to Division Two after just one season back in the top flight.

Matthew Wade retires from BBL to take up full-time coaching role

Matthew Wade ends his 15-season BBL career to focus on his role as Australia's white-ball batting coach. He scored 2,978 runs across 119 matches and leaves behind an unbeaten 130 for the Hobart Hurricanes.

Matthew Wade has confirmed his retirement from the Big Bash League ahead of the 2026-27 season. The 38-year-old wicketkeeper-batter will devote himself entirely to a full-time coaching position with the Australian men's side as their white-ball batting coach. Wade had already been working in an advisory capacity alongside the national squad during the previous season.

Across 119 BBL matches for Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes, Wade accumulated 2,978 runs at a strike rate of 142.35. His nine seasons with the Hurricanes stand as the defining chapter of his BBL career, with 2,446 runs placing him third on their all-time run-scoring list. His unbeaten 130 remains the highest individual score recorded by any Hurricanes batter.

Wade's international playing career concluded in October 2024 following the 2024 T20 World Cup. Hobart Hurricanes chief executive Salliann Beams said his influence on players around him would be a significant part of his legacy.

PCB denies report on withdrawing TA/DA for match officials

PCB says report claiming withdrawal of TA/DA for President’s Trophy officials is misleading.

The Pakistan Cricket Board pushed back against a report saying it had cut hotel accommodation and TA/DA for match officials in the President’s Trophy Grade-II. The board called the report misleading and said no policy change had been made.

TA/DA only goes to officials who travel outside their home city. Most umpires for matches in Lahore and nearby venues are already based there, so they don’t qualify. That rule holds across all domestic formats.

The tournament starts on September 19.

Ravindra Jadeja returns to India ODI squad for West Indies series

Jadeja returns for the West Indies ODIs as selectors trial spin all-round options ahead of the 2027 World Cup.

Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja has been recalled to India's ODI squad for the three-match series against the West Indies after missing the previous two tours. The series begins on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram.

Jadeja replaces Axar Patel, who is unavailable due to the Asian Games. Former India batter Aakash Chopra said Jadeja must take wickets and score runs to justify his selection ahead of the 2027 World Cup, when not all three spin all-rounders can be accommodated. KL Rahul has been named vice-captain in place of Shreyas Iyer.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill reportedly wanted Washington Sundar for the West Indies ODIs to counter the visitors' left-handers, but VVS Laxman retained him for the Asian Games. Nitish Kumar Reddy was shifted from the Asian Games squad to the ODI team as a result.

Samson says competition with Sooryavanshi remains healthy within team

Samson says healthy internal competition with Sooryavanshi strengthens the team while external noise requires mental management.

Sanju Samson said the competition for places in India's T20I team must remain healthy within the dressing room rather than creating internal tension. He acknowledged that external noise affects players but emphasised focusing on personal performance.

Samson scored 57 off 22 balls in the second T20I against Afghanistan and said India's approach of maximising powerplay scoring has been successful. He noted that difficult selection decisions are part of maintaining a world champion team and credited the leadership group for clear communication.

Samson said all players are competitors for the outside world but remain a team playing for the country. He emphasised that the priority is winning games first before individual considerations come into play.

The IPL auction for 2027 will be held in India after three editions abroad, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said on Wednesday. The BCCI wants it back because this time the auction is small, and the board is confident it can find a venue.

The host city depends on when that venue is free — which is never easy during the heavy marriage season. Two big trades have already happened ahead of the auction: Rishabh Pant is heading back from Lucknow Super Giants to Delhi Capitals, and Kuldeep Yadav is leaving Delhi for LSG.

Pant will earn Rs 12 crore with Delhi after Lucknow paid Rs 27 crore for him. Kuldeep joins LSG for the same Rs 13.5 crore he was retained for in Delhi.

Krishnamachari Srikkanth says Abhishek Sharma should not have played first T20I against Afghanistan

Srikkanth's comments highlight the ongoing debate over India's opening combination despite Abhishek's match-winning knock.

Former India captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth said Abhishek Sharma should not have been selected for the opening T20I against Afghanistan on the basis of recent form. Abhishek scored 82 in that match despite going six innings without a score before the series. Srikkanth argued that Sanju Samson and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi should have opened instead.

Srikkanth also praised Ishan Kishan, who scored 270 in the Duleep Trophy final and has since returned to India's T20I side. He said Kishan's consistency across formats makes him a contender for the Test team. Kishan is currently ranked number one in the ICC T20I batting standings.

Abhishek is expected to keep his place for the remaining matches of the series. India have already secured an unassailable 2-0 lead.
