Vansh Bedi denies match-fixing allegations after Tehelka sting

Vansh Bedi, a former Chennai Super Kings player, denied match-fixing claims during the IPL and Delhi Premier League on Tuesday. The 23-year-old said allegations linking him to a Tehelka sting operation were false and defamatory. Bedi said his legal team is taking civil and criminal action.

Bedi was acquired by Chennai for 55 lakh rupees ahead of the 2025 season but did not play a match due to injury. He was part of the Central Delhi Kings in the 2026 Delhi Premier League. The Delhi and District Cricket Association wrote to the BCCI after receiving one report of a corrupt approach during the tournament.

Chennai Super Kings will discuss the allegations at their Annual General Meeting on September 25. The franchise said the reports remain unverified.

New Zealand Cricket named a 16-member squad on Wednesday for the five-match T20I series against India. Mitchell Santner will captain the side, and the series opens on 22 October at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

Seven fast bowlers made the cut: Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Jacob Duffy, Adam Milne, Zak Foulkes and Nathan Smith. Milne is back after missing the 2026 T20 World Cup with injury, and Michael Bracewell, also unavailable for that tournament, returns as well.

Thirteen players from the New Zealand side that reached the T20 World Cup final against India are in the group. Rachin Ravindra is the standout omission after dislocating his right shoulder in a promotional shoot on 16 September. Head coach Rob Walter said Ravindra won’t rush his recovery.

Ashwin questions CoE protocols after Chakravarthy setback

Ashwin says Chakravarthy should have returned within a month but remained at the CoE for two to three months.

Ravichandran Ashwin has questioned the injury-management protocols at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after Varun Chakravarthy spent three to four months at the facility following a hamstring injury. The spinner suffered a fresh side strain shortly after returning to competitive cricket in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.

Ashwin said Chakravarthy should have returned within a month but remained at the CoE for two to three months. He added that players must also evaluate their training methods and workload, citing his own side strain in 2015 that he traced to Olympic lifting.

The remarks follow a PTI report that cited a communication gap between the CoE's medical staff and India's senior selection panel. Ashwin suggested the time has come for separate national teams across the three formats to improve accountability.

India's ODI squad will assemble in Thiruvananthapuram by Thursday ahead of the three-match series against West Indies starting on September 27.

Shubman Gill-led India ODI squad for the three-match series against West Indies is set to assemble in Thiruvananthapuram by Thursday. Some players will reach the venue for the series opener on Wednesday night, while the rest will link up a day later.

New Zealand named Mitchell Santner as captain for the five-match T20I series against India starting 22 October. Santner leads a 16-member squad that includes 13 players from the side that reached the T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad in March. Adam Milne and Michael Bracewell return after missing the tournament through injury.

Rachin Ravindra has been ruled out after dislocating his right shoulder in a promotional shoot last week. Coach Rob Walter said Ravindra needs at least six weeks of rehabilitation and is expected to be available for the ODI series starting 4 November. Bevon Jacobs has been added as cover.

The squad features seven fast bowlers and is expected to face conditions that assist seam movement in October and November. The series forms part of a 12-match tour that also includes five ODIs and two Tests across four cities.

Harmanpreet hopes cricket gold opens floodgates for more Indian success at multi-sport events.

Australia's workload plan hands Marsh permanent ODI captaincy role

Cummins' limited availability turns Marsh's interim leadership into a structural necessity for the South Africa tour.

Pat Cummins

Mitchell Marsh will captain Australia in the first ODI against South Africa on Thursday after Pat Cummins was rested to manage his workload ahead of the Test series. Cummins has played only two of Australia's 31 ODIs since the 2023 World Cup and is expected to miss at least the opening match.

Australia will rotate their leading fast bowlers across the three ODIs, with Nathan Ellis likely to feature in all three games. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood are also expected to sit out matches as the team prepares for the Test series that starts next month.

The arrangement leaves Marsh as the de facto full-time white-ball captain for the tour. He has now led Australia in 13 of their last 31 ODIs, compared with Cummins' two appearances in the role.

India win Asian Games women's T20 gold as Shreyanka Patil returns from injury

India defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final to claim their second successive gold medal. Patil expressed delight at being back in the side after her layoff.

India beat Sri Lanka by 147 runs to win the women's T20 gold at the Asian Games on Tuesday, claiming their first medal of this edition and a second straight title in the event.

Shreyanka Patil returned to the squad after an injury layoff. "I'm delighted to be back," she said — a simple line that matters more than the scoreline itself. Her availability, combined with the depth India showed in the final, signals the squad's readiness for the global cycle ahead.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka announced their men's squad for the Games, led by Arachchige and including four uncapped players.

Mitchell Starc expects vocal crowd but no animosity in Durban return

Mitchell Starc plays down rivalry with South Africa ahead of Durban Test, citing closer ties through franchise cricket.

Mitchell Starc said relations between Australia and South Africa have improved since the confrontational 2018 series, adding there is "no animosity" ahead of the first Test at Kingsmead on October 9. The teams have shared dressing rooms frequently through franchise T20 competitions in recent seasons.

Starc expects noise from Castle Corner during the ODI on Thursday and the Test, though he said he can ignore the crowd. Recent rain in KwaZulu-Natal has left the pitch less dry than in 2018, when Starc took nine wickets in the series opener.

Australia will be led in the ODI by stand-in captain Mitch Marsh, with several players crossing paths with South African counterparts in the IPL, The Hundred and Major League Cricket.

PCB appoints Usama Shahroon as acting Director of Domestic Cricket

Shahroon steps in after Khurram Niazi departed in April for the Capital Development Authority. The post sat empty for months.

Usama Shahroon is now acting Director of Domestic Cricket at the PCB, filling a role that's been vacant since Khurram Niazi left in April to join the Capital Development Authority.

Shahroon will manage day-to-day domestic operations while the board hunts for a permanent replacement. It's a position that carries real weight — the domestic structure feeds the pipeline for Pakistan's Test and ODI teams, and months without clear leadership can fracture schedules and planning.

The timing matters. With the next domestic season approaching, the PCB needed someone in the chair. Whether Shahroon becomes permanent or remains a placeholder will depend on how smoothly the board's broader search unfolds.

PCB inquiry keeps Mohammad Rizwan out of President's Trophy

Mohammad Rizwan was removed from SNGPL's President's Trophy squad due to an ongoing betting inquiry rather than fitness concerns.

An ongoing inquiry into alleged online betting and gambling led to Mohammad Rizwan's exclusion from the President's Trophy Grade-I tournament, sources told Geo Super on Tuesday. Rizwan had joined Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited and was set to captain the side before the PCB contacted the department and instructed it to send him back. The 34-year-old requested permission to train at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, which the PCB denied. Rizwan is currently practising in his hometown of Peshawar. The Lahore High Court earlier directed the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency not to harass Rizwan while allowing its inquiry to continue. The court order states the NCCIA is investigating matters relating to alleged online betting and gambling involving Rizwan under Section 14 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016.

Wide reversal decides India-Japan T20I outcome

India survived a late scare after umpires overturned a wide call in the final over of a rain-shortened T20I against Japan.

India defeated Japan by two runs in a rain-shortened five-over T20I at Sano on Tuesday. Japan finished on 30 for 3 chasing 32 after umpires reversed a wide decision in the final over.

Japan needed eight runs from the final over when Axar Patel bowled a delivery that was initially called wide. The umpires conferred and overturned the call, leaving Japan needing seven from three balls. India captain Shreyas Iyer approached the umpires during the discussion.

According to MCC Law 22.4.1, an umpire should not adjudge a delivery as wide if the striker's movement brings the ball within reach. Japan had no DRS available to challenge the decision.

DDCA reports fixing approach to BCCI after Tehelka sting operation

DDCA alerts BCCI after sting claims former player offered match information.

The Delhi and District Cricket Association has written to the BCCI about a corrupt approach following a Tehelka sting operation. Former Ranji Trophy player Rachit Bhatia claimed knowledge of playing XIs in the Delhi Premier League and IPL.

DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma confirmed the association contacted the BCCI on the day it learned of the approach. The association said the allegations remain unverified and no conclusions should be drawn without proper investigation.

Bhatia alleged he fixed five IPL matches involving Chennai Super Kings and offered information about the Central Delhi Kings franchise. The BCCI's anti-corruption unit has been examining franchise-based state T20 leagues.
