Former India captain Kris Srikkanth believes Naman Dhir has replaced Washington Sundar as India's off-spin-bowling all-rounder in white-ball cricket. Srikkanth made the comments after Dhir took three wickets on his T20I debut in India's eight-wicket win over West Indies in Lucknow.

Dhir bowled all four overs and conceded 31 runs on debut. Srikkanth said Dhir's ability to slow the ball when hit shows he is a thoughtful bowler suited to T20 cricket.

Srikkanth also said Dhir's four-over spell demonstrates why the Impact Player rule should be removed in the IPL. He noted that Dhir has bowled only 36 overs across his entire T20 career before the international debut.

Dinesh Karthik questions flat pitches after India's eight-wicket win

Dinesh Karthik says flat pitches risk making bilateral matches meaningless after India chased 171 in 14.4 overs.

Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik raised concerns about flat pitches after India chased down 171 to beat West Indies by eight wickets in the first T20I at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday. He said one-sided matches risk becoming meaningless when teams score 170 and the opposition finishes the chase inside 15 overs.

Karthik noted that India have won their last eight home T20Is and recorded only four losses in their last 30 matches at home. He questioned whether the pitches offered enough for spinners and said West Indies showed little fight after India lost two early wickets in the chase.

India face West Indies again in Ranchi on Friday. The JSCA Stadium has not seen a 200-run total in its four previous T20Is since 2016.

Sourav Ganguly takes charge as Delhi Capitals head coach; backs Rishabh Pant return

Sourav Ganguly returns as Delhi Capitals head coach and plans to restore Rishabh Pant to his most effective middle-order position.

Sourav Ganguly was appointed Delhi Capitals head coach ahead of IPL 2027, returning to the franchise where he previously served as advisor and Director of Cricket. Ganguly said Rishabh Pant fits perfectly in the middle order and will use the time and space to become a better player. Pant played 111 matches for Delhi Capitals, scoring 3,284 runs and captaining the side before moving to Lucknow Super Giants in 2025.

Ganguly wants to restore Pant to a No. 4 or No. 5 role that allows him to change the course of an innings. Pant was traded back to Delhi Capitals for a considerably lower value after struggling to find a settled role at LSG. Ganguly said there is no conflict of interest in taking charge while remaining president of the Cricket Association of Bengal.

DC finished sixth last season. Ganguly's priority is to take the team into the playoffs. Delhi have reached the IPL final only once, in the 2020 season. Ganguly said the squad has the talent to perform better.
