Nitish Kumar Reddy says team support helped him regain confidence after returning from injury.
Nitish Kumar Reddy said the Indian team management’s backing has helped him focus on performance since he returned from injury. He took 3 for 24 in the second T20I against Afghanistan—his best figures since a quadriceps tear kept him out of earlier tours. Reddy added that conversations with family and friends eased the mental fatigue of long rehab stints at the Centre of Excellence.
Ishan Kishan retained the top spot in the ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings after India's series against Afghanistan. Abhishek Sharma moved to second place, 51 rating points behind his teammate.
Kishan took over the No. 1 position in July after India's series against Ireland. Abhishek gained one place after scoring 82 in the series opener against Afghanistan.
Varun Chakravarthy climbed two places to fifth among bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah moved up seven places to 10th, Arshdeep Singh jumped 11 places to 14th, and Axar Patel rose six places to 27th.
BCCI is reviewing the Impact Player rule after captains raised concerns about its effect on all-rounders.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed the BCCI will take another look at the Impact Player rule after captains pushed back. Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel all told the board the rule has cut into the value of all-rounders, and the issue came up at the last Governing Council meeting.
Dhumal made clear the board wants input from every franchise before it decides. The rule stays in place until 2027, but nothing is locked in yet.
Rashid Khan told NDTV he wanted a medal at the Asian Games but Afghanistan left him out. The disappointment is personal, he said — he wanted to wear the colours at a multi-sport event.
He's in India now for three T20Is against the hosts. Rashid is tweaking his lines to handle the new power hitters — Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi among them.
Afghanistan still haven't won a major ICC title. The talent is there, Rashid said, but plans keep slipping under pressure.
Adelaide Strikers have added Mark Chapman to their squad alongside Ben Stokes and Matt Short for the 2026-27 BBL season.
Adelaide Strikers announced the signing of New Zealand batter Mark Chapman on September 15 for the full 2026-27 Big Bash League season. The 32-year-old will join Ben Stokes and Matt Short under head coach Tim Paine at Adelaide Oval. Chapman holds dual New Zealand and Hong Kong citizenship and has played in three ICC white-ball tournaments.
Chapman recently gave up his New Zealand central contract to pursue franchise cricket. He scored 69 off 33 balls for Islamabad United in PSL 2026 and represented Washington Freedom alongside Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell. Head coach Tim Paine said Chapman’s ability to change games quickly made him a key addition ahead of BBL|16.
Chapman said playing at Adelaide Oval with world-class teammates was the main draw. The Strikers now have three high-profile overseas batters with proven T20 records across multiple leagues.
Leicestershire loses 27 points for a pitch breach, placing the club on the brink of relegation from County Championship Division One.
Leicestershire has been docked 27 points for breaching ECB pitch regulations during its August win over Glamorgan. The Cricket Discipline Panel imposed the penalty midway through the Foxes' penultimate match after rating the Grace Road surface poor. The club forfeited the 19 points earned in the 42-run victory and received an additional eight-point deduction plus a £5,000 fine.
Head groundsman Callum Lewin told the tribunal that extreme heat reaching 35 degrees and an unscheduled Bollywood filming event four days before the match prevented proper preparation. Leicestershire, promoted as Division Two champions last season, can appeal within 10 working days. A further eight-point deduction has been suspended for 12 months.
The Foxes trail Hampshire by 225 runs on the second day of their ongoing match at Grace Road. Defeat will confirm relegation to Division Two after just one season back in the top flight.
Matthew Wade ends his 15-season BBL career to focus on his role as Australia's white-ball batting coach. He scored 2,978 runs across 119 matches and leaves behind an unbeaten 130 for the Hobart Hurricanes.
Matthew Wade has confirmed his retirement from the Big Bash League ahead of the 2026-27 season. The 38-year-old wicketkeeper-batter will devote himself entirely to a full-time coaching position with the Australian men's side as their white-ball batting coach. Wade had already been working in an advisory capacity alongside the national squad during the previous season.
Across 119 BBL matches for Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes, Wade accumulated 2,978 runs at a strike rate of 142.35. His nine seasons with the Hurricanes stand as the defining chapter of his BBL career, with 2,446 runs placing him third on their all-time run-scoring list. His unbeaten 130 remains the highest individual score recorded by any Hurricanes batter.
Wade's international playing career concluded in October 2024 following the 2024 T20 World Cup. Hobart Hurricanes chief executive Salliann Beams said his influence on players around him would be a significant part of his legacy.
PCB says report claiming withdrawal of TA/DA for President’s Trophy officials is misleading.
The Pakistan Cricket Board pushed back against a report saying it had cut hotel accommodation and TA/DA for match officials in the President’s Trophy Grade-II. The board called the report misleading and said no policy change had been made.
TA/DA only goes to officials who travel outside their home city. Most umpires for matches in Lahore and nearby venues are already based there, so they don’t qualify. That rule holds across all domestic formats.
Warwickshire top Division One while Leicestershire await a possible points deduction after day two of the County Championship round.
Warwickshire moved into the Division One lead at Chelmsford, but it cost them nine wickets. Ethan Bamber took six for 26 as Essex were rolled for 134, and Warwickshire closed with a 17-run advantage.
Leicestershire's pitch report is still sitting with the Cricket Regulator, leaving them on the brink of a points deduction. They reached 148 for seven against Hampshire, who were bowled out for 214 at Grace Road.
Nottinghamshire pushed past Sussex at Hove, a ninth-wicket stand of 74 giving them a batting point. Brett Hutton's 59 held the innings together while 123 wickets fell across the round.
Lahore High Court rejects Rizwan's challenge; PCB awaits NCCIA forensic report before deciding on disciplinary measures.
The Lahore High Court dismissed Mohammad Rizwan's petition challenging summons issued by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency. Chief Justice Aalia Neelum directed the wicketkeeper-batter to respond directly to the agency.
Rizwan's lawyer argued that the NCCIA lacked jurisdiction because the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit handles corruption matters, and that the player was interrogated without notice after the Lord's Test with his phone confiscated. The court rejected these claims.
The NCCIA is conducting forensic analysis of phones seized from Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq. The agency will submit its findings to the PCB next week, after which the board will decide on any disciplinary action. Rizwan has also contacted the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit seeking clarification on the phone seizure and forensic procedures.
Zafar Daaryoush and R Sai Kishore added an unbroken 50-run stand to take Gloucestershire to 128 for seven against Middlesex on day one.
Zafar Daaryoush and R Sai Kishore added 50 runs for the eighth wicket to lift Gloucestershire from 128 for seven on the first day of their County Championship match against Middlesex. The pair frustrated the visitors after Gloucestershire had slipped to that score in the middle session.
Kishore finished unbeaten on 71 from 131 balls while Daaryoush remained not out on 28. The stand rescued the hosts after three quick wickets fell either side of lunch.
Middlesex will resume on the second morning with the chance to press for a first-innings lead on a pitch that has offered seam movement throughout the day.
Imran Tahir dismissed talk of age as he prepares Guyana Amazon Warriors for the CPL playoffs.
Imran Tahir said he is reminded daily that he is one of the oldest players in world cricket but remains focused on winning a second Caribbean Premier League title with Guyana Amazon Warriors. The 43-year-old leg-spinner is leading the Warriors in CPL 2026 and has taken 12 wickets in eight matches so far. Guyana are chasing their second title after winning in 2023.
Tahir said the reminders about his age come from fans and opponents alike. He has played in every edition of the CPL since its inception in 2013. The South African has also represented multiple franchises across T20 leagues worldwide.
Guyana topped the league stage and will face Barbados Royals in the qualifier on Friday. Tahir said the squad's experience gives them an edge in knockout matches.

Hampshire defeated Surrey by 194 runs in the Metro Bank Women's One-Day Cup semi-final at the Utilita Bowl. Maia Bouchier scored an unbeaten 117 as Hampshire posted 303 for 5 before bowling Surrey out for 109.
Bouchier shared century stands with Freya Kemp, who scored 77, and Abi Norgrove, who made 60. She leads the competition with 721 runs in 11 innings. Amanda-Jade Wellington took 5 for 19 to complete her second five-wicket haul of the tournament.
Hampshire will face The Blaze in Saturday's final at the same venue, seeking to avenge last year's defeat by Lancashire.
Jadeja returns for the West Indies ODIs as selectors trial spin all-round options ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
Ravindra Jadeja has been recalled to India's ODI squad for the three-match series against the West Indies after missing the previous two tours. The series begins on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram.
Jadeja replaces Axar Patel, who is unavailable due to the Asian Games. Former India batter Aakash Chopra said Jadeja must take wickets and score runs to justify his selection ahead of the 2027 World Cup, when not all three spin all-rounders can be accommodated. KL Rahul has been named vice-captain in place of Shreyas Iyer.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill reportedly wanted Washington Sundar for the West Indies ODIs to counter the visitors' left-handers, but VVS Laxman retained him for the Asian Games. Nitish Kumar Reddy was shifted from the Asian Games squad to the ODI team as a result.
Bumrah sits out the West Indies series as Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav earn maiden selections.
India named a 15-member squad for the five-match T20I series against the West Indies that begins on October 6. Jasprit Bumrah was rested after featuring in the Asian Games squad while Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav received their first call-ups.
Shreyas Iyer will captain the side in his first home assignment. Nitish Kumar Reddy was included in the T20I squad but withdrawn from the Asian Games team and moved to the ODI squad for the same tour.
The series starts in Lucknow three days after the Asian Games men's final. Kuldeep Yadav returns to the squad while 12 players were retained from the current Afghanistan series.
Babar Azam returns to domestic red-ball cricket for the first time since 2019.
Babar Azam will represent Oil and Gas Development Company Limited in the President's Trophy Grade-I starting September 18. The Pakistan captain last played domestic first-class cricket in 2019 for Central Punjab in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
PCB officials included Babar as a guest player after he requested an opportunity following Pakistan's 3-0 Test series loss in England. OGDCL sports head Farah Batool said Babar's kit has been ordered and he may feature from the second round on September 24 if not ready for the opening fixture.
Fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf have also appeared in the ongoing competition after limited first-class exposure in recent seasons.
India named their ODI squad for the three-match series against the West Indies, retaining Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli while naming KL Rahul as vice-captain. Nitish Kumar Reddy was withdrawn from the Asian Games squad to play the ODIs, giving him a chance to establish himself as a seam-bowling all-rounder in Hardik Pandya's absence. Dhruv Jurel was selected as the second wicketkeeper ahead of Rishabh Pant.
Naman Dhir and Auqib Nabi earned their first ODI call-ups. Ravindra Jadeja returned to the squad after missing the England series, while spinner Kuldeep Yadav and seamer Mohammed Siraj provide experience. The three ODIs begin in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27, move to Guwahati on September 30 and end in New Chandigarh on October 3.
The selectors have kept the core intact ahead of the 2027 World Cup rather than accelerating a full transition. Rohit's inclusion follows his 138 at Lord's in July, which came after speculation about his future in the format.
Rishabh Pant has been left out of India's ODI squad for the three-match series against West Indies. Dhruv Jurel was selected as backup wicketkeeper to KL Rahul instead.
Pant will captain Rest of India against Jammu and Kashmir in the Irani Cup at Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar from October 1 to 5. Sarfaraz Khan will serve as vice-captain.
Pant last played an ODI against Sri Lanka in August 2024. His omission comes despite Ishan Kishan's absence from the squad due to Asian Games commitments.
Nigam joins the squad as cover for Chakaravarthy while Reddy shifts to the West Indies ODIs.
India have withdrawn all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy from the Asian Games 2026 squad so he can play in the three-match ODI series against West Indies. Reddy was replaced in the continental squad by uncapped Delhi Capitals spinner Vipraj Nigam. Varun Chakaravarthy was also ruled out of the Asian Games and the Japan T20I with a side strain.
Nigam, 22, played for India A in the recent one-day tri-series in Sri Lanka, taking seven wickets in five matches. Reddy will now feature in the ODI series that begins on 27 September in Thiruvananthapuram. The Asian Games cricket competition runs from 17 September to 3 October in Nagoya, Japan.
Sanju Samson scored 57 off 22 balls against Afghanistan, his second consecutive strong performance as opener, yet his long-term place in the Indian T20I side remains uncertain.
Sanju Samson scored 57 off 22 balls in the second T20I against Afghanistan—a sharp answer to the doubters who questioned his selection. He'd been chosen ahead of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for the second match running, and this time he didn't waste the chance.
Former India batter Subramaniam Badrinath wants Samson locked in until year's end. The frustration behind that call is obvious: Abhishek Sharma, Samson's opening partner, has gotten more rope despite sitting in the same series with identical early chances. Two explosive games back-to-back against Afghanistan suggests something's clicking, but the BCCI hasn't signaled whether this experiment extends into the West Indies series starting October 6. That tour will be the real test—whether Samson's recent form hardens into a settled role or gets swallowed by the next selection cycle.
