Mohsin Naqvi has no plans to return Asia Cup trophies to India

BCCI promises notwithstanding, Naqvi intends to keep the trophies until his term ends in April 2027.

After the Board of Control for Cricket in India claim that it will bring the men's and women's Asia Cup trophies home in the near future, Pakistani media have claimed that the Asian Cricket Council chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has no intention of giving up the silverware.

According to Geo, the trophies will remain at the ACC office in Dubai, in Naqvi's possession, as the Pakistani politician is adamant about his demand that the Indian teams receive the trophy only from him.

The saga began during the 2025 men's Asia Cup when India, after beating Pakistan in the final, refused to take the trophy from Naqvi at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. India's position at the time was backed by the BCCI in light of the Pahalgam attack, and by the fact that Naqvi is the interior minister of Pakistan, with a history of offensive statements against India.

Badrinath backs Gaikwad to remain CSK captain for IPL 2027

Subramaniam Badrinath advocates for CSK to keep Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain ahead of mega auction in 2027.

Former India batter Subramaniam Badrinath has stated that Chennai Super Kings should retain Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain for IPL 2027. Badrinath argued that with only one more season remaining before the mega auction, the franchise should maintain continuity in leadership. Gaikwad has led CSK in 33 matches, winning 14 and losing 19.

Gaikwad's batting performance declined in IPL 2026 as he scored 337 runs at a strike rate of 123.44. Sanju Samson, traded from Rajasthan Royals, emerged as CSK's highest run-scorer with 477 runs at a strike rate of 165.62. Samson had a strong captaincy record with RR, leading them to the IPL final in 2022.

Badrinath made the comments while responding to a fan question on social media platform X. CSK finished eighth in the IPL 2026 points table under Gaikwad's leadership.

Shashank Singh and Priyansh Arya attend Punjab Kings conditioning camp in Bengaluru

Shashank Singh and Priyansh Arya were among the players at Punjab Kings' four-day off-season conditioning camp in Bengaluru that concluded on September 17.

The camp, run in partnership with Stance Health, focused on strength, conditioning, mobility, nutrition and recovery rather than match-specific skills. It was the franchise's second such initiative this year.

Shashank said the daily routine of morning gym work, afternoon conditioning and evening recovery sessions helped players build bonds off the field. Priyansh highlighted the franchise's year-round logistical support across multiple cities.

Rohit Sharma row contributed to Ajit Agarkar's exit: Report

Reports indicate that a disagreement over Rohit Sharma's ODI future contributed to Ajit Agarkar's exit as chief selector.

A reported disagreement over Rohit Sharma's future in ODIs played a significant role in Ajit Agarkar's decision to step down as chairman of selectors, according to PTI. The selection committee had planned to move on from Sharma after the Lord's ODI against England, but the BCCI publicly backed the former captain, blindsiding Agarkar.

Agarkar also clashed with VVS Laxman over India A scheduling and the handling of injured players. Key India A matches overlapped with domestic tournaments, and an injury list of centrally contracted players was leaked to the media.

Agarkar did not attend a BCCI review meeting in Mumbai after India's series defeat to England. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the meeting was called at short notice while Agarkar was away.

BCCI backing of Rohit Sharma curbed selector independence

Agarkar's exit followed BCCI's public defence of Rohit and disputes over India A fixtures and player management.

Rohit Sharma

The BCCI's public statement supporting Rohit Sharma's ODI future effectively removed Ajit Agarkar's authority to drop senior players, according to a senior board official cited by PTI. Agarkar had agreed with the team management to move on from Rohit after the Lord's ODI, but the board reversed the decision and issued a media release without informing the selection committee.

Agarkar also clashed with VVS Laxman over India A scheduling and injury management. Key India A matches overlapped with domestic tournaments, and the Centre of Excellence did not provide recovery timelines for centrally contracted players. An injury list was later leaked to the media.

Agarkar did not attend a review meeting in Mumbai after the England series. The BCCI said the meeting was called at short notice while he was away, but several officials viewed the absence as the final break.

Ajit Agarkar is set to end his tenure as chairman of selectors after a series of disagreements with the BCCI over selection policy. Reports say the flashpoint came when the board issued a public statement supporting Rohit Sharma's ODI future without consulting the selection committee.

Agarkar had favoured moving on from the former captain after the Lord's match against England. Tensions also rose between Agarkar and BCCI Centre of Excellence chairman VVS Laxman over selection policy and fixture scheduling. Agarkar did not attend a post-England review meeting in Mumbai called at short notice.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia defended Agarkar's absence, saying the meeting was arranged while the selector was away. The move comes ahead of India's three-match ODI series against West Indies starting on September 27.

Irfan Pathan urges more ODI opportunities for Yashasvi Jaiswal

Pathan said Jaiswal needs game time to prepare for the 2027 World Cup as India's backup opener.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has urged the team management to give Yashasvi Jaiswal regular ODI opportunities ahead of the 2027 World Cup. Pathan said Jaiswal is India's third-choice opener and needs consistent game time to avoid entering the World Cup short of match practice. India face the West Indies in a three-match ODI series beginning September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram.

Jaiswal has played six ODIs in three years and scored 285 runs at an average of 71.25, including two centuries. Pathan said the series offers a chance to test several players with Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar away at the Asian Games. Naman Dhir, Auqib Nabi and Nitish Kumar Reddy have earned call-ups for the series.

Pathan noted the team can afford to experiment against the West Indies and called the overlapping schedules a blessing in disguise for young players.

Ajinkya Rahane says Abhishek Sharma accepts outside noise will continue throughout career

Ajinkya Rahane says Abhishek Sharma knows outside criticism will persist and does not try to prove anything to critics after his 30-ball century.

Ajinkya Rahane said Abhishek Sharma accepts that outside criticism will continue throughout his career regardless of performance. The former India batter made the comments after Abhishek's 30-ball century in the third T20I against Afghanistan.

Abhishek scored 11 runs across three matches in Zimbabwe before responding with 229 runs in the Afghanistan series at a strike rate of 269.41. Rahane said the opener is mature enough not to try proving anything to critics and speaks freely without worrying about judgment.

Rahane also praised Nitish Reddy's bowling in the same series, noting the all-rounder took six wickets at an economy rate of 8.77. Mohit Sharma cautioned that expectations around Reddy replacing Hardik Pandya should remain low.

Subramaniam Badrinath backs Impact Player rule in IPL

Subramaniam Badrinath supports the Impact Player rule in the IPL, contrasting with India captain Shubman Gill's criticism of the regulation.

Former India batter Subramaniam Badrinath has voiced support for the Impact Player rule in the Indian Premier League, stating that it makes the competition more interesting and gives an extra player an opportunity to contribute. Badrinath made 95 IPL appearances for Chennai Super Kings between 2008 and 2013.

The BCCI introduced the rule in 2023, allowing teams to substitute one player from their starting XI during matches. India captain Shubman Gill has criticised the rule, arguing that adding an extra batter makes the game more one-dimensional and reduces the skill required when wickets fall.

Gill said chasing 180 or 160 on challenging wickets is more exciting than pursuing 220 on flat surfaces. The debate over the rule's future continues ahead of IPL 2027.

Aakash Chopra says selectors have moved on from Pant in ODIs

Aakash Chopra says selectors have decided Rishabh Pant is no longer part of India's ODI plans despite his Test importance.

Aakash Chopra believes Indian selectors have made up their mind about Rishabh Pant's immediate future in white-ball cricket. Pant was left out of the ODI squad for the upcoming West Indies series despite being named captain of the Rest of India side for the Irani Cup.

Chopra said Pant remains important in Test cricket but his position in the ODI setup appears to have changed. Dhruv Jurel has been preferred as the second-choice wicketkeeper-batter behind KL Rahul, edging Pant out of white-ball plans.

The three-match ODI series against the West Indies begins in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27. Shubman Gill will lead the side, while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to the 15-member squad.

BCCI makes own hotel arrangements for Asian Games

BCCI steps in with own hotel arrangements and kit fixes as Indian men's team prepares for Asian Games departure.

Members of the Indian men's cricket team are still waiting for correctly sized kits ahead of their Sunday departure. The BCCI has been talking to JSW Inspire, the IOA's kit supplier, and most of the jersey issues are now sorted.

The board has also booked its own hotel rooms after concerns about the accommodation offered by the organisers. The men's rooms were too cramped for kit bags, while the women's team is staying in the rooms provided by the IOA.

India open their trip with a one-off T20I against Japan on September 22 before the Asian Games start on September 28. They'll wear standard kit for the bilateral match and the official Asian Games jerseys for the tournament.
