Shubman Gill says India has little time to experiment before 2027 World Cup
Shubman Gill says India must settle on its 2027 World Cup combination quickly after fielding and bowling concerns surfaced.
India captain Shubman Gill said the team does not have much time to experiment ahead of the 2027 World Cup and wants to settle on its preferred combination from the next series onwards. Gill spoke after India lost the third ODI against West Indies by five wickets, their first home ODI defeat to the Caribbean side since December 2019.
Gill flagged fielding lapses and death bowling as areas that need improvement. India dropped seven catches across the series, including three or four in the third ODI alone. He said the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and the injured Hardik Pandya limited the bowling options available during the series.
Gill noted that the series gave opportunities to players who might not have featured with a full-strength attack. He said India needs to finalise its World Cup combination quickly and begin playing with it consistently.
