India advance to Asian Games semi-finals as Afghanistan quarter-final abandoned without a ball

India qualified for the Asian Games semi-finals after their quarter-final against Afghanistan was abandoned without a single ball being bowled due to persistent rain. The match at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin was called off 16 minutes before the scheduled toss. As the higher-ranked side in the ICC T20I standings, India advanced on seeding.

India are the number one ranked T20I side and enter the semi-finals as defending champions. Afghanistan reached the quarter-finals after finishing second in Group A behind Nepal. The match was the second quarter-final washed out after Pakistan's game against Hong Kong was also abandoned earlier in the day.

India will face the winner of the Sri Lanka versus Nepal semi-final on October 2. The final is scheduled for October 3. India won gold at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou after their final against Afghanistan was also washed out.
