Abhishek Sharma replied to mentor Yuvraj Singh's playful reminder about his 12-ball fifty after smashing 113 off 38 balls in India's six-wicket win over New Zealand in Wellington on Tuesday. Yuvraj congratulated Abhishek on his match-winning innings but noted the record remained intact. Abhishek said scoring 50 off 12 balls is not easy and happens only once in a while.
Abhishek reached his fifty off 15 balls and his century off 35 balls, hitting nine fours and 11 sixes. He now has 11 T20 centuries, moving past Virat Kohli's tally of 10. India chased down 199 in 13.2 overs with 40 balls remaining after New Zealand posted 198 for three.
Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 45 off 19 balls in a 133-run opening stand. The partnership produced a record 118 runs in the powerplay. India lead the five-match series 3-0 with two matches remaining.
