Bhuvneshwar Kumar returns to India T20I XI after 1425 days

Bhuvneshwar Kumar replaced Mayank Yadav in the playing XI for the rain-shortened fifth T20I against West Indies in Bengaluru.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned to India's T20I playing XI after 1425 days for the fifth and final match against West Indies in Bengaluru. The 36-year-old replaced Mayank Yadav in a side that also saw Shivam Dube come in for Nitish Kumar Reddy. Rain reduced the contest to nine overs per side with the series level at 2-2.

India captain Shreyas Iyer confirmed the two changes before the match. West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and chose to bowl first, citing his team's batting depth in the shortened format. Bhuvneshwar last played for India in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against England.

The veteran seamer's recall comes after strong IPL performances with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He claimed 45 wickets over the past two IPL seasons. Bhuvneshwar will join the squad for the five-match T20I series in New Zealand starting October 22.
